Dear Sumba Friends
I am grateful to be back in Sumba. I had a long trip both to Canada and Penang for my medical check up. On my flight back from Canada I missed my flight from Seoul to Denpasar, because we left Toronto late, but Korean Air provided hotel accommodations and a meal before flying to Bali the following day. Yanrus got to Bali the day before I arrived. We planned to go together to Penang (Malaysia) for my medical check up.

Dear Sumba Mission Friends,
We hope all is well and going smoothly where you are. We are grateful for God’s blessings as we enter the year 2026. Our school semester starts at the beginning of January, and we have started a new semester and year. To mark the beginning of this year, we did this through a tree-planting program with the parents of the students. This month also began with heavy hearts as we received the sad news that Opa Sommer had passed away. We felt the deep loss also, both at the home and in this village. We do, however, remember everything which Opa taught us about life and God, and our priority is remembering that God remains with us in Sumba.

Dear friends
Warm greetings from us in Sumba during this joyful season. There is only one more day left until the new year. Looking back on the past year, we are amazed at how God works and has spared us. We have experienced many blessings, but there were also obstacles that made us more aware with our steps.
Starting with this month, the last 2 weeks we have had lots of rain. We are grateful because the water cistern is once again filled. It is now the beginning of the rainy season and there is a lot of fruit on the trees. Once again we can enjoy our mangoes, pine apple, avocadoes, bananas and other fruit.

Dear friend
November has quickly passed by. This month has brought us many things which has made us to stop and be still. Many of the children, staff, and teachers have been ill with a new virus. This creates extra work for the staff who are well, making life harder. Each afternoon the children and teachers help with supper and prepping vegetables for the following day. We have made a schedule for helping in the kitchen, working in the garden and with the little ones. We have started our Christmas program preparations. Usually we are able to go to the mission post three times each week. However, due to the situation we are facing we are only able to go two times a week. I am hoping that we are able to get more staff to help in the home for cooking and looking after the little ones.

Greetings from Tanambanas

Dear friends, we are delighted to meet you all again at the end of this beautiful and blessed month of April.  We are very thankful to God because all the activities at school, the Mission Post, and the children’s home are going well. Most of the teachers and staff are doing a good job. The teachers are quite busy now, preparing the final test for grades 6 and 9, as well as semester exams for other grades.
